Rita expected to visit College Station

So, apparently we are in the middle of Hurricane Rita's projected path. She was upgraded to a category 4 this morning. It it hits here as projected, the damage could (I stress could, not will) be significant. We are forecast to have winds of up to 80 m/hr on Saturday and major rain. So maybe we're (by 'we' I mean Barb and me) in for our first hurricane.

We don't have plans to leave the area, but many A&M students have been called home by their parents. Of course, I think we need to take the threat seriously, but part of me wonders if the hype over Rita's projected impact on College Station isn't just residue from the recent memory of Katrina. (Of course, I think its impact on the coast will be significant if it hits its projected target.)

We'll keep you posted. Maybe Saturday will just be a really windy and rainy day in College Station.
