Ann Arbor Photo Tour
Alright, for those itchin' to get a visual feel for our new city, here are a few pics of the area. All of them are of the downtown area(s) and some nearby our place (which is close to downtown). We're not yet ready to post pictures of our apartment, so you'll have to wait for those.
We've really enjoyed the last few weeks here. Other than the two hellishly hot days when we moved, the weather has been beautiful, so we've been able to get out for walks and explore a bit. There is much to do here--trying to take it all in at once can be overwhelming. So we're just taking it slowly.
Anyway, here are the photos.

This is a picture from our side (north) of the river looking toward the downtown area, which is just on the other side of the bridge.

Here's a quaint little street immediately on the south side of the bridge. The street leads to the farmer's market and Kerrytown shopping area. Just up the street from here is somewhat of a local treasure -- Zingerman's Deli. Quite the experience!

This is looking south down Main St., one of the 4 distinct downtown areas. It might be tough to tell from this picture, but, in addition to being lined with trees, the street is also lined with sidewalk cafes and patios. Lots going on here!

This is looking east from Main down Liberty St., the other main downtown strip. Down at the other end of Liberty are two very cool movie theatres -- the Michigan and State. We went to see a move at the Michigan last weekend -- very cool!

This is Angell Hall, the building where the philosophy dept resides. It's situated on State St., which is one of the other downtown areas. (For more on Ann Arbor's downtown areas, click here.)

This is looking south down State St. (toward Angell Hall). You can see the State Theater on the left hand side. This is also lined with sidewalk cafes, etc.

This is looking from Angell Hall north on State St. As you can probably tell from the pic, the campus is quite urban (even though Ann Arbor is not that big of a city). The campus buildings are integrated into the surrounding community, rather than being set off from the surrounding area on a secluded piece of land.
Anyway, there's a first taste. We'll post more as we take them!

neat! Zingermans is the place I emailed Barb about....but oops I called it Zimmermans. I saw it on Fit TV last week. So now I feel like I have been to A2, even if through a t.v. program focusing on reuben sandwiches which I don't like :-) yummy.
