Technological Update
Well, folks, you might have noticed the little note in the sidebar proclaiming 'COMING SOON! DAVEANDBARB.CA'. We just wanted to let you know a few things concerning that.
First, we have registered our own domain (daveandbarb.ca), for a variety of reasons, none of which I will expound on here. How does this affect you? Well, for one, you no longer need to try to remember that overly-complex daveandbarbblog.blahblahblah address. (Yes, we know it was complicated.) From now on, typing 'daveandbarb.ca' into your browser's address bar should get you where you want to go. For now, that address will simply take you to our weblog. In the future (that is, when we get around to it), we plan to create a much bigger website with additional information and pictures. Also, much of the stuff taking up the right sidebar will be expanded and have their own pages. Most of the information will be static (i.e., will not be frequently updated), but we will still maintain the blog, which will be accessed from that future website.
(Sidenote: you may be wondering why we are going to all the trouble to create a website for ourselves (or, you may not be wondering, but I'm going to tell you anyway). One overarching reason is that, given our foreseeable future, a web address will be our most static address. Consequently, we are getting in the habit of giving out our web address to people instead of some land address since the website will always contain up-to-date information. There are other reasons as well, but maybe I'll talk about them later.)
A second way that this affects you is email address changes. Up until now, Barb has been using an increasingly-difficult-to-use Hotmail account; but this will no longer be the case. Barb's new email address is barb@daveandbarb.ca. Please update your address books to reflect this change. (She plans to continue checking her hotmail account periodically, but will begin to phase out use of this address.)
Also, some of you may still be trying to reach me at my Hotmail account (wiensbd@hotmail.com). I am no longer checking that account; it has become too much of a hassle. Instead, you can use either my TAMU account (wiensd@tamu.edu) or the new and improved dave@daveandbarb.ca. My primary address will continue to be the TAMU address, but only for 10 more months.
