Technical Breakthrough

In addition to writing the content of the thesis, I've also had to concern myself with typesetting it -- basically, making sure its appearance conforms to the strict standards of the thesis office. In the fall, I learned how to use a typesetting program called 'LaTeX'; I'll spare you the technical details, but basically I've found the program to have so many virtues that I've sworn off of word processors. Anyway, to get my thesis to be properly typeset, I've had to modify some of the code of the program and I have no code-writing experience! Thankfully, I was able to pick up some of the basics, in addition to having a friend in the dept who is much better at this stuff than I am. Today, we had our breakthrough... we've finally got the code to the point where all we have to do is input the content of our theses and the program typesets it perfectly! I'm pretty excited!

Anyway, I know, it's only a small bit of news, and not a very interesting one at that. But finally getting this solved will take a lot off my mind once it comes time to submit my thesis to the thesis office.
